Having laid the groundwork for Phoenix by learning best practices to produce sheets of post-consumer plastics, next came the time to consider how we might make use of this new material. We are fortunate to have access to a CNC machine on Galiano, enabling us to test out a method for engraving. We’re very happy with the results!
Another tool that we’re in LOVE with, is a plastics scanner that allows us to ID plastic types in just seconds. It’s like a magic wand that tells us whether an item is composed of one of the four categories of plastic we are accepting: #2 (HDPE), #4 (LDPE), #5 (PP), or #6 (PS). Having this tool means that we aren’t reliant on the original manufacturer to have added a plastics category stamp. It’s a real game changer when it comes to the flow of materials into the program!
