Galiano Island Recycling Resources is happy to announce that we are expanding and improving our recycling collection facilities. We are constructing a new building at the facility that will increase our capacity for processing and will improve safety for staff and community members while operating within COVID-19 protocols. In light of the need to address the climate crisis, the new building will also include installation of a net-zero solar system that will produce as much energy as is used at the recycling depot.

The project is made possible by a grant from the ‘Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – British Columbia – COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream’. The project is funded in part by the Government of Canada and in part by the Government of British Columbia. For more information on federal infrastructure funding, visit: http://www.infrastructure.gc.ca.

We’d also like to acknowledge and give thanks to those in the community who have contributed funds, time, and services to the project thus far. Given the generosity of our community members, we know that we are not alone in our excitement for the project. Currently, we are at the permitting phase with contracts out to tender. We have high ambitions that construction will get underway imminently.

Throughout the building process, our aim and intention is to continue collecting materials with very little disruption at the depot. Please keep an eye on our website and on our social media pages where we will post service notices if they are required as well as updates on the project.

GIRR is excited to offer an increased level of service to our community. We are looking forward to improving your recycling experience!
