We are now accepting marine debris, to be recycled responsibly through Ocean Plastic Depot in Richmond, BC. Their organization has been around since 2020, supporting coastal communities to manage the burden of plastic pollution that washes up on our beaches. They do great work, and we’re grateful for the service they provide!

Examples of accepted marine debris are oyster baskets & crab pots, foam floats, hard plastic buoys, hard plastics & fragments, netting, rope, barrels, tires with foam, and marine Styrofoam. Severely bio-fouled items (i.e., heavily laden with barnacles) and garbage (i.e., non-recyclables) will not be accepted. If in doubt, please check in with our staff at the depot or email Renée at galianorecycles@gmail.com.

Thank you to our friends at the Galiano Conservancy and Galiano Island Parks & Recreation Commission for the groundwork laid in 2024 when we launched the pilot Galiano Beach Clean Up program. We hope this iteration of our beach clean up efforts will serve our Island community and shorelines well.
